Wealth of region's talent in Associated Artists' exhibit
The Associated Artists of Pittsburgh has found a accommodations for its 101st Annual Exhibition and it's a perfect fit. Currently on view at Society for Contemporary Craft in the Unclothe District, the show does have a decidedly craft-oriented bent, thanks in part to the exhibit's juror, Fo Wilson, a nationally known artist and creator who is currently an assistant professor at Columbia College in Chicago. But it still is a well-rounded exhibit that showcases the largeness of talent in this large organization.
For the exhibit, Wilson selected 45 works from more than 300 submissions by artists within 150-mile radius of Pittsburgh. The works muse about the intersection of art, craft and design, which was the Associated Artists' intention in collaborating with the Society for Contemporary Cunning for this exhibit.
Visitors will see such hybrid pieces as "Art Rover," an art cart of sorts crafted by Ron Bayuzick of Cambridge Springs, in Crawford County; two Chinese-inspired tea sets by Ceil Sturdevant of Ross; and two conflicting-media necklaces by Gerry Florida of Braddock Hills.
