Frequently Asked Questions

How long (word count, number of words) should a Young Adult Chick Lit Novel be?

What is the approximate plate literary agents and publishers are looking for this particular genre / sub-genre? My book is a chick lit who understood the values and humor .... Your thoughts? Thank you!

Agents say all YA writers by unknown clock is between 50,000 and 80,000 words. Since adult chick lit tends to short-term, I aim to end earlier small range.

Well, how long are all books of this kind that you read before trying to write? This is how long. If you do not know exact wordcount, make a rough - words per line, lines per page, pages per book.

Know any chick-lit novels where the heroine has to overcome shyness?

Or the leading actress lacks a social life and wants to turn her life around. I'd prefer something that could be classified as chick-lit because I like the review style and humor.

I am writing a chick-lit/young adult novel but...?

Its set in a invented country, where an organization fights a corrupt goverment and I want my story not to be a dumb chick-lit that's why I included aspects of extinction, family issues, corrupt goverement and poverty. Ofcourse it will have humour, major

I consider it sounds really good and I do think there will be an audience. Even guys might be interested if there's conflict and corruption lol. It sounds like a fresh day Brave New World. Good luck with it x

Humor: Presents of Mind

The holidays: unthrifty, overly-commercialized, ridiculous, and depressing. I loathe them. But I love my kids and they loved Christmas, so when they were small I put on a happy holiday face, spent a boatload of cash on their presents and drank my tow-haired share of Chardonnay in order to endure it. I tried hard to buy proper presents. I confess, though, that I did buy some that weren’t exactly what some purists might call politically correct.  To this day two in particular make me fawn but one thankfully saved my sanity.

Most cringe-worthy present: one year I bought my four-year-old daughter a brace of toy high heels and a kitchen set (sorry Gloria Steinem). I’ll never forget the day I watched her in the backyard actively scrubbing down the kitchen set while wearing her high heels and her favorite really, really thin on the ground before mini-dress. The feminist in me died a little bit that day.

Most downright thankful present: another year I bought my unfledged children their first video game which I’m now ashamed to admit was called Streets of Rage (or as my 3-year-old called it Stweets of Wage).  My kids as well as my still loved it and so I considered it a “downright thankful” gift. Because of that video ploy I got to relax and read chick-lit books while hubby and the kids played and played and played. What would I have done without Streets of Go off the deep end?
