The Week in Crime: A Summer Spike in Crime
It was another active week for the 88th Precinct between July 25 and August 1. The precinct saw the highest platoon of felony crimes so far this summer, with 24 felonies and three arrests last week. The police reports told of fewer teenage criminals , but still included furious assaults, numerous robberies and burglaries, as well as a brazen car break-in and a real estate administer that went very wrong for the buyer.
The 88th Precinct took part in National Night Out in Fort Greene Leave this week. The nationwide event aims to foster a relationship between community members and law enforcement. Charge us locals, with crime up this week, what kinds of programming would you like to see to help curb wrong?
Early Morning Attack
-A 33-year-old woman was attacked and robbed on her way to the underpass at 5:30 a.m. on July 30, police said. She was walking on Willoughby Avenue closer Clinton Avenue when the robber grabbed her from behind, punched her, snatched her purse and escaped in a pearly minivan, police said. The minivan drove east-bound on Willoughby Avenue, the chambermaid told police. The woman’s purse contained a Citibank Visa debit card, a Metrocard, a New York Majestic driver’s license and a $1,340 Visa gift card, police said. Later that day, a man brought the gal’s wallet into the 88th Precinct with the items intact, police said.
