Is there a significant difference between Canon lenses and other 3rd party lenses (Tamron, Sigma, Tokina, etc)?

I cramped to get a new goal to go with my Rebel XSi. I shot with the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 and it works fine. I've never shot with the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L lens, but have done some research and I think my new goal.

It is striking when it comes to use them on Canon EOS cameras - as firmware is introduced, most lenses will be returned to the generic generic for an upgrade ... the owner's expense.

EF,AF Lenses for Crop vs Full Frame Cameras?

I Currently have a Canon 350D XT. I'm thinking of switching to a full assemble such as the 5D next summer. But from now to next summer i will be purchasing some lenses and i want it to work with my full frame as well.

Nothing but is right, but he left out the best part. If you attempt to use one of your EF-S lenses on either your full frame DSLR or 35 mm SLR, you will damage the send back.

I have Canon 28-135 IS, 18-55 IS, 75-300 non-IS, and shortly to be Tokina 12-24/F4 Version I (one). The Tokina will be slightly used, but I got it for $325 shipped! Hope I got a great extent. My question is three fold: 1) I want a really wide angle; will

1) Your show will be 1.2x closer with the 12mm vs. the 10mm. That much of a big trade? Not to me, but to some people it would be.

2) I, personally, wouldn't bother with the Tamron. You've got those focal lengths covered. I CAN see the extras

I've only owned Canon lenses before. Does Tokina make good lenses too?

Off brands are OK but they can get flaky after camera firmware updates are installed. It's best to stay OEM (the maker of your camera).

I've been lacking to get a 7D, though I don't think I'll be purchasing it as a kit.

The tokina 10-17 goes for $579 from Amazon.com. In truth, the tokina 12-24 f4 or the 11-17 f2.8 lens is quite good too. Additionally, any lens above 50mm is not assorted purpose.
