i dream you would have to bypass the switch itself and run a seperate switch to operate the lights when you want them on.

How do they tow your car from a tow-away zone when you have your parking brake on?
Because if the car is in Car park (automatic) or in gear (standard shift) then the front wheels aren't going to move (assuming it's front-wheel push) and the parking brake does not let the rear wheels move.

Nowadays, tow trucks advance the front wheels, which are usually the driven wheels (lockd by the transmission when in Park). If the parking check locks the back wheels as well, bogeys are placed under the back wheels so that the car can be moved.
